You’ve probably already attended a business lunch during which some participants had a behavior that you considered inappropriate. Not very nice, isn’t it?

During a business lunch, it’s essential to observe certain rules in order not to undermine your credibility in front of the other participants. You probably follow these rules without even thinking about them, but a little reminder can help you avoid embarrassing situations.

1. Select the right restaurant for your meeting

Avoid restaurants where darkness and music are the watchwords. You must be able to hear the other participants and have a discussion with them without having to shout. It is not pleasant for anyone to have to repeat the same thing several times without being understood.

2. Be on time at your business lunch

It’s a golden rule. You need to be on time. If you arrive late, I promise you that it won’t give the impression to your guest that you’re important or very busy. They will remain with the idea that you are not managing your time well.

3. Choose your meal carefully

If you know that you’ll have to handle documents during your business lunch, avoid taking a dish that is eaten with your hands. Even if there’s a 50% off the ribs, trust me, you don’t want to risk messing up important documents.

4. Avoid speaking with your mouth full

Once your meal is selected, make sure to respect this rule that your parents have repeatedly repeated. Nobody wants to see your meal half-chewed in your mouth. Even if what you have to say is crucial, wait a few more seconds before sharing your idea. Everyone will thank you.

5. Use your smartphone with reserve

If you use a meeting management app on your smartphone during your business lunch, I congratulate you. Otherwise, don’t succumb to the temptation to take a quick look at your smartphone during a business lunch. This kind of attitude can give the impression to the people you’re with that you’re not interested in them and what they have to say. To avoid that, check your messages while you’re in the bathroom.

You’re now ready to participate in a business lunch! By following these tips, you will have a professional attitude that will certainly please your partners.
